Alice in Borderland Season Two Review

Hello Readers,

After binge-watching Season One, I couldn’t resist diving straight into Season Two, especially with that perfect cliff hanger ending. I thought Season One had emotionally wrecked me, but Season Two? Let’s just say it went hold my drink! I’ll admit it, I cried during multiple episodes. Spoilers.

If you thought you understood the rules of Alice in Borderland after Season One, Season Two proves you wrong. Initially sceptical about whether the show could live up to its first season, I was quickly proven wrong. Season Two ramps up the stakes as the face cards enter the game, bringing deadlier challenges and heightening the tension.

What really sets the season apart is how deeply it invests in its characters. As their relationships evolve, you become more emotionally connected to their plight, which adds weight to each game they face. Death is always just a breath away, and the characters’ desperation only grows in this strange, brutal version of Tokyo.

The pacing is spot-on intense action sequences that get your heart racing are balanced with slower moments that delve into character development. While you’ll stay for the high-stakes games, the show’s rich character exploration and the fight to maintain humanity in a nightmarish world will keep you hooked.

The first episode picks up right where Season One left off, immediately raising the stakes with a ruthless new boss who challenges everything Arisu and Usagi thought they knew about the games. The series doesn’t shy away from the grim reality of life in the Borderland; the cruelty of the world is ever-present, making the players’ struggles even more impactful.

This season also deepens the backstories of key characters, adding layers of complexity and giving us insight into their motivations. This exploration raises more questions about why they’re in the Borderland and what their journeys might hold.

One lingering question I had throughout the series was whether jokers would be counted as cards in the deck. By the end of Season 2, that question is answered, and I was intrigued by the implications. Research revealed that in the manga, the Joker is the ferryman of the Borderland, which could open up new, exciting territory for the series.

Alice in Borderland Season 2 is a masterclass in tension, character depth, and brutal storytelling. If the first season hooked you, this one will keep you on the edge of your seat, eagerly awaiting what’s next.

Season Three is rumoured to arrive in September 2025. Like Arisu, we’re left wondering what to expect as there is no source material. I also had to share the poster for Season Three.
