You May Now Kill the Bride by Kate Weston Review

Hello Readers,

You May Now Kill the Bride is a fun and suspenseful read that mixes mystery, drama, and dark humour. The story revolves around five childhood friends Lauren, Saskia, Dominica, Farah, and Tansy who come together for Tansy’s bachelorette weekend. But when Tansy turns up dead, the weekend takes a shocking turn, and suddenly, everyone is a suspect. As secrets from their pasts begin to resurface, the women are forced to confront their complicated friendships.

What I loved most about this book is how it doesn’t just focus on solving the mystery of Tansy’s murder but also dives deep into the relationships between the friends. The question of who killed Tansy? is just as important as why these women have stuck together for so long despite all their drama and flaws. Through a mix of present-day action and flashbacks, we get a glimpse into their shared history and see how the past has shaped their messy, sometimes toxic relationships.

The characters are fascinating. Each one has their own set of flaws, making them both frustrating and compelling to read about. Tansy is oblivious to others’ feelings, Farah is desperate for the spotlight, and Saskia’s manipulative ways keep things tense. Eva, Farah’s brother’s new girlfriend, adds even more drama into the mix, making things even more complicated. Watching these women’s personalities clash is both entertaining and, at times, a little bit heart breaking.

The writing is sharp and easy to follow, and I loved how Kate made the dialogue so snappy and full of humour. Even with all the tension and suspense surrounding the murder, the funny moments made me laugh out loud and lightened the mood. The twists and turns in the mystery kept me guessing, and by the time the story wrapped up, everything fell into place in a way that felt satisfying and true to the characters.

The ending is well-done, tying up the loose ends of the mystery while leaving you with a sense of closure about the friendships that have been central to the story. It’s a perfect mix of suspense and reflection on the complicated, messy nature of friendship.

If you love stories with a bit of drama, lots of secrets, and a great murder mystery, this one’s definitely for you.
