Alice in Borderland Season One Review

Hello Readers,

Alice in Borderland has been sitting on my Netflix watchlist for ages, and now I’m kicking myself for not watching it sooner. Rarely does a series leave me holding my breath, but this one had me on edge from start to finish. With its bold storytelling and relentless suspense, every episode pulls you deeper, making it impossible to stop watching, you just have to know what happens next. It’s the definition of binge worthy. Spoilers.

From the very first episode, Alice in Borderland grabs hold of you and refuses to let go. Set against a stunning post-apocalyptic version of Japan, the series delivers breathtaking visuals, immersive world-building, and game arenas that are both ingeniously designed and deeply unsettling. Every challenge feels high-stakes, and the relentless tension keeps you hooked from start to finish.

Imagine being thrust into a world where your survival hinges on playing life-or-death games. In Alice in Borderland, each game is represented by a card from a deck, with each suit symbolizing a different challenge: Spades test strength, Clubs demand cooperation, Diamonds challenge intellect, and Hearts...

What truly sets this show apart is its ability to constantly shift the status quo in emotionally fraught and viscerally tangible ways. Just when you think you have a grasp on where things are headed, Alice in Borderland upends expectations, making for a truly unpredictable ride. The character introductions are masterfully handled, ensuring that even those unfamiliar with the original story can immediately connect and immerse themselves in the narrative. The direction and storytelling are so well-executed that you never feel lost.

The character introductions are masterfully handled, ensuring that those unfamiliar with the original manga can immediately connect and immerse themselves in the series. The show does a fantastic job of making the characters feel real and relatable, giving each of them enough depth and backstory to make you genuinely care about their fates. Whether it’s through their struggles, friendships, or the way they navigate the brutal world around them, you quickly become attached making every moment of danger all the more intense and emotionally gripping.

Unlike many anime or manga adaptations that struggle to capture the essence of their source material, Alice in Borderland gets so many things right. From what I’ve seen online, fans widely regard it as one of the best live-action adaptations, and after watching, I can see why. It has even inspired me to pick up the manga myself, eager to experience the story in its original form.

By the time I reached the end of season one, I was almost shell-shocked. Without giving anything away, the finale is the perfect setup for season two, leaving just the right mix of resolution and anticipation.
With its gripping storytelling, intense action, and phenomenal world-building, Alice in Borderland is an absolute must-watch. If it’s been sitting on your watchlist, don’t make the mistake I did and leave it stuck on the watch lists.

Come back for my review of Season Two tomorrow.
