1. find the centuries-old enemy who hunts her through each life and destroy them forever
2. figure out exactly why she’s being hunted in the first place,
3. try quite hard not to fall in love with them
…again.
Miniature Review
Before we dive into the review, it’s no secret that I’m a
huge fan of Laura Steven. Having read most of her work, I’m consistently
captivated by how each new book draws me in, blending her signature whimsical
charm with a dark, compelling narrative style.
What I love about Laura’s writing is her amazing ability to balance tender moments with high-stakes tension. The story feels both whimsical and dark, and I found myself gasping out loud at unexpected twists, unable to stop reading even when I knew I should be doing other things. She has a rare talent for keeping the tension high, pushing you to turn page after page.
The writing is absolutely breath taking. Each sentence flows effortlessly, weaving a vivid and evocative narrative that pulls you in. I found myself pausing to savour lines that really spoke to me. There were so many quotes I wanted to highlight, I could’ve highlighted the whole book.
The story centres on Evelyn and Arden, two people who’ve met in every lifetime, only to tragically kill each other. The mystery of why this happens, combined with glimpses into their past lives, creates an emotional and satisfying journey. It’s a love story that’s so much more than that, exploring love, loss, time, and identity in a way that will stay with you long after you finish.
If you’re looking for a beautifully tragic, haunting read, I can’t recommend this book enough.
