Family Pack (Netflix) Review

Hello Readers,

I watched Family Pack on Netflix in that awkward time between Christmas and New Year and I really enjoyed it. Please note, the poster image featured in this post were sourced from Google. I really enjoyed Family Pack. I initially put it on as background noise while reading, but soon found myself putting my book down to focus on the film instead. It's a sweet, light-hearted time traveling comedy based on the card game The Werewolves of Millers Hollow. The film does a fantastic job of not turning into a giant commercial for the game, which I really appreciated.

After watching the film I looked to see how it did review wise and it’s a mixed bag. Personally, I think it’s just a fun family film that doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s not groundbreaking, but I had a great time with it, enjoying the silly, light-hearted route it takes without being overly slapstick.

The plot follows an ordinary family that gets transported into the world of a card game. They find themselves trapped in a medieval village, dealing with time-travel dilemmas and nightly werewolf attacks. At first, the famil think they are at a renaissance fair, but the family soon realises they’re stuck in the game itself when they witness the very real execution of a supposed sorcerer. To escape and return to the future, they must identify and eliminate the werewolves plaguing the town.

The cast features Franck Dubosc as Jérôme Vassier, Jean Reno as Gilbert Vassier, Suzanne Clément as Marie Vassier, and Grégory Fitoussi as the Captain. Jean Reno's portrayal of Gilbert Vassier standing out for its humour and depth. Gilbert has dementia but finds that that his mind has been restored while in the medieval era. Its great added detail in this film.

Family Pack offers a delightful escape into a quirky adventure. It’s not a film that will leave you pondering the meaning of life, but it’s an enjoyable and light-hearted watch for anyone looking to unwind. With its charming cast, fun premise, and just the right amount of humour, it's the perfect opportunity to enjoy something that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
