That Christmas (Netflix) Review

Hello Readers,
I absolutely adored this Christmas movie, although I will admit I didn’t know before watching that it was based on books by Richard Curtis, who also co-wrote the film. There are some enjoyable moments, especially the self-referential nod to Love Actually, which added a delightful layer.

From what I’ve read, the movie is adapted from three books in the series, presenting the story from four main characters’ perspectives. This approach effectively highlights how each character faces challenges, and I thought it was well executed. This film has a warm, cozy feeling that I’ve come to expect from a good Christmas film. There are some genuinely great moments, and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t leave an impact on me.

This Christmas films shows a variety of problems people may experience during Christmas, such as loneliness. For a children Christmas film this film tackles some difficult themes, including divorce, loss of loved ones, the struggles people may face behind closed doors, young love, and understanding the impact of our own issues on others. It highlights the importance of empathy and understanding.

This film is packed with references to current affairs and up-to-date pop culture, which I think will make it age beautifully. I hope that when I rewatch this film in the future that the nostalgia will hit as I think these references bring back fond memories.

It really is a beautiful Christmas film, and I really recommend you watch it.
