Happy Christmas

Happy Christmas Dear Reader,
I hope none of you are feeling too overwhelmed this Christmas Day. I know the festive season can be challenging. This post isn’t advice, but I’ll include numbers for helplines that will be open throughout the holiday season.

It’s okay to feel sad today, and it’s also okay to feel nothing at all. It’s okay if you don’t like Christmas or if it feels like the worst day of the year that’s okay too. Please know that you are not alone, and feeling this way doesn’t make you a ‘Grinch’ or a bad person. If Christmas isn’t your thing, or if it feels like the worst day of the year to you, that’s okay too.

In fact, in this little corner of the internet, you are safe with me, and if you want to, you can outright say ‘fuck Christmas.’ While we’re at it, let’s give a big ‘FUCK OFF’ and a middle finger to the toxic positivity that often surrounds the holiday season.

It’s easy for others to suggest ways to deal with feeling overwhelmed, like meditating or practicing box breathing, but I’m not going to tell you what to do. I might be many things, but a hypocrite is not one of them.

Instead, just know that your feelings are valid, and you shouldn’t feel guilty for feeling how you do. What matters today is that you prioritise what’s best for you.  Others around you might not fully understand, but you certainly don’t need to justify yourself to anyone.

It’s okay to take a step back, go for a walk by yourself, or simply take a breather. There’s no need to put on a brave face all day. Please take care of yourself and do whatever is going to help you get through today.
