Kingdom (Netflix) Review

Hello Readers,

I might be a little late to the party on this one, but I discovered Kingdom a couple weeks ago and I binged both seasons that are out and the prequel film.

I am using a poster image I have found through google I do not own any rights and am using the image purely for future review purposes (Fair use under the copyright act sections 29 and 30 under use for a review).

I think Kingdom is a standout in the zombie genre and one of my favourite zombie series in recent years. I loved every second of it and I can’t stop recommending to people. I have a little list of things that I think makes Kingdom unique in my opinion.

First is the setting the series is set during Korea's Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910) and the series is filled with detailed costumes, and historical backdrops making Kingdom feel unique. While talking about the setting I would be daft not to bring up the social commentary that is threaded within this series as the series criticises the class divide and the exploitation of power, during this time period and its fictional bubble.

Secondly, the pacing really doesn’t give up between the continuously changing political landscape to betrayal to the zombie attacks.

Thirdly, this series is filled with brilliant characters each with their own moral predicaments and personal struggles that not only enhance the drama but adds another brilliant layer to the story.
Finally, without giving to much away the zombies are intelligent. These are not your stereotypical slow-moving zombies these are terrifying creatures.

I think what I loved the most about Kingdom is not only are the zombies a thing the series shows humanity at its best and worse. This series holds no punches when it comes to showing humanity's greed, corruption, but also the resilience of the human race in the face of an apocalyptic disaster.

My only complaint about Kingdom is that it took me too long to discover it. It is what I have been missing in recent zombie movies and tv series. For me personally this is the perfect zombie series there is political intrigue, but it’s also a historical drama, and it has relentless horror. It was so clever, and I loved how it kept the cogs turning the whole time I was watching it.

I also have to mention the cinematography in this series as not only do they capture the beauty of the Korean countryside but also the horror of the plague (Zombies).

This is a must watch for any zombie fan.
