Hello Readers,

It’s that time again Readers a little later than planned but let’s see what books are publishing in December. Born Into the Night by Emily Bisbach (Gifted eBook from Netgalley)
Synopsis: Evie remembers nothing of the fantastical world she was born in. Not its whimsical beauty that inspired the paintings she studies as an art history student. Not Alicrat, the astonishing ability to manipulate threads of existence. And not her mother, who disappeared after securing her daughter’s safety.

But when a mysterious stranger, Charlie, reunites Evie with her family heirloom — an ancient book written in the indecipherable Alterra Lingua — she remembers him. Burgeoned by the hope of finding her mother and tempted by the mystery of decoding the book with Charlie, Evie returns to the sister world of her birth.

Between the centuries-old clues from a legendary Renaissance artist, the crumbling castle archives holding a millennia of history, and the oracle in exile who knows the unknowable, Evie learns her destiny is inextricably intertwined with the good and evil of both worlds. With the danger that hunted her mother growing perilously powerful, she must decide what, if anything, should be sacrificed for the greater good.

Under Loch and Key by Lana Ferguson
Synopsis: Keyanna “Key” MacKay is used to secrets. Raised by a single father who never divulged his past, it’s only after his death that she finds herself thrust into the world he’d always refused to speak of. With just a childhood bedtime story about a monster that saved her father’s life and the name of her estranged grandmother to go off of, Key has no idea what she’ll find in Scotland. But repeating her father’s mistakes and being rescued by a gorgeous, angry Scotsman—who thinks she’s an idiot—is definitely the last thing she expects.

Lachlan Greer has his own secrets to keep, especially from the bonnie lass he pulls to safety from the slippery shore—a lass with captivating eyes and the last name he’s been taught not to trust. He’s looking for answers as well, and Key’s presence on the grounds they both now occupy presents a real problem. It’s even more troublesome when he gets a front row seat to the lukewarm welcome Key receives from her family; the strange powers she begins to develop; and the fierce determination she brings to every obstacle in her path. Things he shouldn’t care about, and someone he definitely doesn’t find wildly attractive.

When their secrets collide, it becomes clear that Lachlan could hold the answers Keyanna is after—and that she might also be the key to uncovering his. Up against time, mystery, and a centuries old curse, they’ll quickly discover that magic might not only be in fairy tales, and that love can be a real

The Resurrectionist by A. Rae Dunlap
Synopsis: Edinburgh, Scotland, 1828. Naïve but determined James Willoughby has abandoned his posh, sheltered life at Oxford to pursue a lifelong dream of studying surgery in Edinburgh. A shining beacon of medical discovery in the age of New Enlightenment, the city’s university offers everything James desires—except the chance to work on a human cadaver.

For that, he needs to join one of the private schools in Surgeon’s Square, at a cost he cannot afford. In desperation, he strikes a deal with Aneurin “Nye” MacKinnon, a dashing young dissectionist with an artist’s eye for anatomy and a reckless passion for knowledge. Nye promises to help him gain the surgical experience he craves—but it doesn’t take long for James to realize he’s made a devil’s bargain. Nye is a body snatcher. And James has unwittingly become his accomplice.

Intoxicated by Nye and his noble mission, James rapidly descends into the underground ranks of the Resurrectionists—the body snatchers infamous for stealing fresh corpses from churchyards to be used as anatomical specimens. Before he knows it, James is caught up in a life-or-death scheme as rival gangs of snatchers compete in a morbid race for power and prestige.

James and Nye soon find themselves in the crosshairs of a shady pair of unscrupulous opportunists known as Burke and Hare, who are dead set on cornering the market, no matter the cost. These unsavoury characters will do anything to beat the competition for bodies. Even if it’s cold-blooded murder . . .

Exquisitely macabre and delightfully entertaining, The Resurrectionist combines fact and fiction in a rollicking tale of the risks and rewards of scientific pursuit, the passions of its boldest pioneers, and the anatomy of human desire.
