Happy Halloween Readers,
I loved
The Dead House by Dawn, but I have always
struggled to put into words my thoughts about The Creeper Man without writing
Dawn a love letter. I adore this book it’s not just a spooky read but a psychological
thriller that will make you question your own sanity.
Trigger Warning: Mental
illness, suicide, child abuse.
This is a hard book to review because I don’t want to
give too much away but I will admit I wish I uld wipe my memory of this book so I could reread it completely blind and enjoy the experience and creepiness again. As much as I would love to reread this book every year, I tend to leave it two before I jump back into it.
Once again Dawn manged to deal with complex subject
matters in a well thought out way. I know I have listed trigger warnings, but
this story mentions madness, grief and fear. It's done in a very haunting way. One
thing I will slightly give away is that although I had my suspicions very early
on about a couple of the reveals, I couldn't have predicted the full scope of
the twisty tale Dawn was telling.
The story unfolds like a nightmare with twisting
corridors that only lead deeper into the places you don’t want to go but you can’t
stop reading it. Dawn creates such vivid imagery within her books that it was
easy to picture the old manor and the dangerous forest surrounding it.
The book is told
from different characters points of view, through diary entries and cleaver
font types that all add to the tension and character building. I loved how this
book was written and how some of the pages have been designed. It really is the
details with Dawns books that just add that extra level of thought that I adore.
