Happy Halloween Readers,
I am so happy I got to see the book slightly blow up on social
media and that my local The Works struggled to keep to sprayed edge edition in
stock. Just a warning this review might turn into a giant love letter to Bill because
I loved this book, and I am so excited book two is in the works.
It was a perfect Halloween read and I read it in one sitting
as the book was absorbing thanks to Bills writing where you could picture everything
in vivid detail. The characters were beautifully written, and I couldn't fault
them as the story unfolded and I probably would have reacted the same way minus
the whole let’s go find a serial killer vibe.
Sanera is a small town where nothing really happens, but
every small town has its own legend and Sanera’s is the story of the Ghoul that
haunts the old, burnt-out mansion in town. It’s well known the mansion is
creepy beyond belief and the story of the Ghoul becoming plausible reality.
I can understand why this books I compared to Scooby Doo but
it’s like Scooby Doo meets Grady Hendrix meets YA Horror. Bill manages to capture
the tension of a 90’s slasher with the added fun of a ragtag group of friends
that are reminiscent of a scooby gang type group.
I loved getting to meet Cam, Jonesy, Amber, and Buffy and
joining them on this creepy journey. I would join them on another in as
instant. As much as I loved our little Scooby Gang, I enjoyed all the horror
and slasher tropes that Bill put them through from the phone call. the figure in
the window and the “Lets split up” what’s the worst that can happen.
The ending! I read this book two weeks ago and the ending
is still living rent free in my head. I am going to reread this book in the new
year because I need to know if Bill left any breadcrumbs that would be obvious
now I know the ending.
What more could you want from a spooky season read the twists
and turns, the secrets, a serial killer on the loose, a haunted house AND a
GHOST?! BUT ghosts aren’t real? Are they?
