Mort by Terry Pratchett

Hello Readers,

It’s no secret I love the Discworld series. I would like to admit on the is blog I am a liar when I brought my top five books in the series in The Discworld Collector's Library editions I was done, and I wasn’t getting any more physical copies. Well technically I can blame the Hogfather as he just so happened to bring me The Death Collection in the new covers for Hogswatch. I love them and they look so good together.

Mort is the fourth book in Discworld series and the first book in the Death series. This book is a great introduction to Death, his realm, and the role of Death in the Discworld. There is no death of rats yet, but I will live... Just as I have Binky to keep me company. This review might be a bit of a love letter it’s no secret I love the Discworld series, but I also have a soft spot for DEATH.

I think Terry was extremely clever in this book as not only it us our first meeting with DEATH and his realm, but he manages to tell the story extremely well by having the books story focus on DEATH choosing and apprentice. Poor Mortimer or Mort for short. The first half of the story is about   Death training Mort to take over the family business, so we are introduced to everything through Mort’s point of view. Its smart story telling.

Whilst this story is filled with a fair number of crazy situations and laugh out loud moments there are thought-provoking moments that ground you pretty quickly. Making Mort slighter darker than other Discworld books. Terry brings these different elements together in such a natural way that makes Mort unique. What makes this book incredible descriptions of how this universe works and the different realities and places and people.

This is the first book in the Death series the other four other are Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather, and Thief of Time.
