Hello Readers,
I accidently discovered Elite while I was looking for
something to have on in the background while reading and I think I was 10
minutes in when I put my book down and was absorbed into the first season. Elite
is available on Netflix. I am using a poster image I have found through google I do not own any rights and am using the image for future review purposes (Fair use under the copyright act sections 29 and 30 under use for a review).
Just a little house keeping there are adult themes in this
series we have the great show trifecta we have murder, spice and drama. This show
is also English dubbed. I will also say I am extremely late to the party on
this one as season one came out in 2018.
They way the series unfolds makes it easy to binge due to
three things this series does extremely well. Firstly, the murder mystery is compelling.
Secondly the class and racial commentary is cynically of the powerful. Finally,
the writing the story being told is at times gripping, lurid, touching,
devastating, and intense.
Only minutes into the first episode, the series grabs your
hand and tells you to run with it. I think with in the first 10 minutes you see
that someone has been murdered and for the rest of the first season you are
trying to figure who the killer was. Spoiler alert: I did not work
out who the killer was, but it was an emotional dramatic series ending.
I think what I enjoyed the most about the series is that
it didn't drag out the “smaller” stories that intertwine with the main plot of
the season. I would also like to just
say the cinematography throughout season one is gorgeous, and I hope it
continues into season two.
Netflix's Elite doesn't go for style over substance.
Unlike most high school dramas, the series moderates the dramatic plot twists we’ve
grown to expect from teen shows with real human emotion that hit the audience
hard. The show focuses on the kids and how growing up too fast can have
devastating consequences.
What really makes Elite stand out from other high school
dramas is the strong character development, this may come back and bite me in the
butt for the later seasons, but I adore season one Guzman. At first glance, Guzman
is your typical privileged high school bully, but the writers smartly provide him
with his own unique narrative that hints at redemption.
I cant wait to start season two.
