Hello Readers
Thank you, Ad Astra Fiction, for sending me finished copy of House of Open Wounds by Adrian Tchaikovsky for free in exchange for an honest review.
I knew when I picked up City of Last Chances that it wasn’t going to be a standalone, and I was more than happy to jump back into this world. Check out my review of City of Last Chances.
I loved what Adrian did with his characters in the first book (City of Last Chances), but I think this book contains Adrian’s best character work. I cherished every single character in this book and is one of the best examples of 'found family' I have read in a while. I know I say this a lot, but it just seems the bar always forced higher by another found family.
In my review yesterday I said how I loved joining Adrian on some vast travels, but I enjoyed that the events in the first book as it only takes place in one city well imagine my brain going into overdrive working out that this book takes place in an Army Camp. I understand why other reviews have started comparing this series to the works of Terry Pratchett.
I will confess I liked this book a smidge more than its predecessor, I think that might be down to the fact I thought that this book was slightly funnier, a little more heartfelt, there are so many great lines in this book and my book is heavily tabbed.
This book will hit you in the feels and by the end of the book I felt as though I had been through the war alongside them. But it’s not all doom and gloom there are some touching moments in this book and some moments that are comedic genius. This book reminds me of the final Blackadder season (Blackadder goes Fourth) where you know that its serious, but the characters are making you laugh and lose yourself for a moment.
Thank you again Ad Astra Fiction
