Miniature Review

I mean this as a compliment this book is just a book full of “Yeah okay this is now my life.” I am not ashamed to admit I have honestly thought about what I would do if it turned out I had a long-lost family member who turned out to be a villain. I am pretty sure I would have reacted like Charlie.

Imagine your life going from substitute teacher to oh you Uncle you don’t speak to is a Villain and you’re about to inherit the business. We really see Charlie role with the punches Oh, okay there’s a lair on a volcanic island, oh computer-savvy cats and without too much of a spoiler Dolphins.

There’s something about having Charlie be completely overwhelmed and confused throughout the whole book that just made him so relatable as a character. I enjoyed watching Charlie try and understand and work his way through his new normal.

This is the first Scalzi’s book that I’ve read, and it won’t be the last. This is one of the funniest books I’ve read in a while, and it shows with the number of tabs I’ve put into this book (47 I am new to tabbing books). John shines at making the outrageous appear plausible on every single page on this book. It’s a real testament to his writing that he can make the wonderfully bizarre world of being a villain somehow relatable.

This book gets super bonus points for not only for being one of the funniest books I’ve read this year but for having Wil Wheaton narrate the audiobook I have an audible credit left and it’s going to be a credit well spent.
