Hello Readers,
Today I am sharing a review of one of my favourite games
from my teen years. The game was recently on sale on steam, so I have been
replaying it. This game is full of nostalgic feels for me I remember playing in
on release day back in 2010.
Title: Alien vs Predator
Date released: 16 February 2010
Game Developer: Rebellion Developments
Gaming Platform: Steam
Genre: First-person shooter, Survival horror
Cover Image:
Plot Summary:
Bringing the legendary war between two of
science-fiction's most popular characters to FPS fans, AvP delivers three
outstanding single player campaigns and provides untold hours of unique 3-way
multiplayer gaming. Experience distinctly new and thrilling first person
gameplay as you survive, hunt and prey in the deadly jungles and swamps
surrounding the damned colony of Freya's Prospect.
Review:
From what I can remember each of the three campaigns have
their strong points and low points. From what I remember even the marine
campaign was pretty decent. Each of the three campaigns have their own
intriguing story elements, some nice set pieces, and unique gameplay. The attention to detail is great, the level concepts
are thought out, and the sense of momentum that characterize the finest
shooters is all here. The controls are easy to learn and the way the game is
set up, you are gradually introduced to new controls and functions as you
acquire new weapons, tools and abilities.
One thing this game really does have going for it is the
sound effects. For me personally I think the AvP have always had the best sound
effects. Given every sound is recognizable from the Alien and Predator worlds
comes through just as you remember them. The nostalgia of hearing the Predator
switching between different vision modes to the Alien's unpleasant hissing
sound.
Honestly, I am usually full team Predator (AvP) but in
this game it is more fun playing the Alien. This is the first Alien vs Predator
game that has made me question my loyalty to the Predators, I found the Alien
storyline a smidge more fun during my replay. I don’t tend to play the marine in
the AvP world I don’t like feeling like a little duck. But out of the two species
I replayed I think that the Predator is the weakest of the two campaigns, maybe
I had some nostalgic memories of the Predator being a badass and I didn’t feel
like the badass I felt slightly ripped off as the Predator in the 2000 game
felt more powerful during a replay.
