Hello Readers,
A couple of months ago I was talking to a friend about her disability (Trigger
Warning) she was huffing and puffing disabled this disabled that. It broke my
heart she kept seeing herself as broken and it broke my heart. The only thing that
popped into my head was “no Hun it makes you unique it’s like a superpower” and
it helped. I’m not saying I’m a miracle or mental health worker, but it helped
flip all the negativity I had around my idiopathic anaphylaxis.
This then got me think about how I could turn into a positive and this into a blog post is the result of 3 months of the cogs turning. I just want people to have the chance to say honestly what its like. Which might help educate other or help someone who has just getting a diagnosis. I’m not one for making someone do something I wouldn’t so here we go…
What is your superpower? Idiopathic anaphylaxis and spontaneous
angioedema
What does that mean? I go into anaphylactic reactions
randomly and occasionally get random sweeling without a reaction
When did you get your superpower? December 2020
Something people don’t know about your superpower? It changes
it’s not fun
One stereotypical thing that everyone thinks about you
superpower? That I just drop into a reaction
What annoys you about having a superpower? My face swelling
What picks you up on days when your superpower isn’t so
super? Reading and watching really bad movies
What’s one thing you wish people knew about your superpower?
Not all reactions are the same and secondary reactions are not to be messed
with.
What’s one thing you wish you knew about your superpower
when you got it? How long it would take me to not hate my body
What extras are in your hospital grab bag? Phone charger,
kindle, earphones and Chapstick
Anything you would like to add? I wrote a blog post about
it here
Did it help you develop a “sick” sense of humour? YES
